My hard drive crashed this week.
I didn't have any warning.
I went to bed while several photos shoots were being copied to my external hard drive and woke up with a computer that no longer turned on.
The photos I was copying?
No. They didn't copy.
The hard drive that crashed?
50% could be recovered.
50% gone forever.
Part of what was gone forever were two photos shoots and 20 proofs from a wedding.
I thought they had both been copied to my external hard drive.
I was wrong.
The wedding proofs can be re-edited.
One shoot I found about half of the photos.... very random and, of course, not some of the best ones.
I can re-shoot.
The other shoot... of my good friend, her adorable boys, and her baby girl in-utero.... gone.
I cried.
Not having my computer for 3 days was terrible.
I got behind in editing... oh, so behind.
I didn't eat or sleep much those three days... constantly worrying about what was lost and what was saved.
I am buying a HUGE external hard drive tomorrow.
I am going to set it up to copy all of my photo edits every night.
I learned my lesson.
It was a crappy lesson to learn.
I don't think many lessons learned come easily, though.
Well, I tried a few times to make this video show up right here.... but it kept messing up previous posts... so a link is the best I can do for now!
Up until today, Myah has had x-rays twice in the past 2 weeks.
The doctor thought she broke something in her foot after she jumped into a shallow pool Memorial Day weekend.
That was negative - severe sprain.
Last weekend, we thought she broke her wrist after falling backwards in the kiddie pool.
That was negative - another sprain.
(And Myah was banned from all water fun)
As we left Urgent Care last Sunday morning, the doctor joked, "Well, I will see you in a few days.... these things come in threes, you know!"
I laughed. (kind of)
x-ray #3 - broken clavicle... 4-8 weeks in a sling and brace
The Details:
Myah scored a goal in the first 5 minutes of her last game of the season this afternoon.
Soon after, she was running across the field towards the ball.
She said someone tripped her (and this could be the case... but she is my daughter and I have been known to trip over something as small as a twig).
As she went flying through the air, she did a somersault (mid-air) that ended with her clavicle hitting the ground first and finished in a complete roll (think volleyball).
She said she heard something crack - like when someone cracks their knuckles - but she couldn't figure out what could be cracking in her shoulder.
She is pretty tough, so she asked to go back into the game.
Things came to a screeching (crying) halt when she did a throw in.
She said she felt hot pain through her shoulder and up into her neck.
She is drugged up on some kiddie vicoden right now, so hopefully she can get some rest tonight.
If you know Myah at all, you know that picture above is all her.... what goof.
We went to Festival today.
I love, love, love Festival.. and it is not, I repeat NOT, just because I love to go to the food booths.
Today, some friends were scheduled to sing at 2:45 pm.
I say "scheduled" because an immense storm blew through GR at about 2:30 pm.
It was pretty spectacular - super strong winds, thunder, lightening, rain.... a good ole Michigan thunderstorm... except we were watching from outside the entire time instead of through a window!
We actually had a really great afternoon.
The girls were completely entertained by Sarah Grace.
I got to hang with my bff (inside joke here) Abby.
We all got to eat some fun, Festival food.
(how much do I love the vegetarian eggrolls and fried rice - I am pretty sure I was eating tofu - and liking it!)
Even though the stage was gone (really, gone... the tent blew in), the show still took place.. and this time on the big stage.. the Calder Stage.
I did not take my camera, but Abby got some really fun shots.
I don't know if this will work - but there are more HERE
... and I will TRY to post some pics and updates from the past month!
I met Sam & Tammy for the first time 3 days before the wedding.. and after Sam smashed his head into my low-hanging dining room light and my dog peed very close to Tammy's feet, we got along fabulously!
Sam & Tammy got married yesterday in Fallasburg Park... and the weather could not have cooperated more!
The wedding was amazing and the bride was beautiful.
They are so obviously in love, it made photographing them a piece of cake.
I had to show them a few before they head to Mexico for 2 weeks of sun and sand!
(the rest will end up HERE - and Aric took the last shot shown here... it is one of my favorites!)
